Art, just as life, is discovered through a process of trial and error. By allowing one's self to fail, or succeed, individuals learn about themselves and the world around them. I believe that this equally applies to the art making process. Through experimentation of materials, mediums, and ideas, the artist learns about art, the world, others, and their own self. My work strives to explore the connection between process and maker and viewer. Just as I consider the art making process to be deeply personal, I believe that experiencing and viewing art is equally as individualized. My goal is to create artworks that engage viewers to explore and question both the meaning and the making of each piece.
The word bridge is defined as “something that is intended to reconcile or form a connection between two things.” Bridges are literal connections between two points, as well as metaphorical connections between ideas. For this project, Katie will explore the idea of connections through the interactive installation of a bridge created out of string. Katie will be hosting Natural Dye Workshops to dye the string for the installation on the following days: “East Lake Artist Village Market Day” (Saturdays Oct 10, Oct 17, Oct 24, Oct 31 from 10am-2pm) and Sunday Oct 25, 2-5pm)
